Family Law Associate Attorney

Salary: $80,000-$100,000 per year

We are currently seeking an experienced and high-performing Associate Attorney to join our growing Family Law team.

This is a full-time, salaried (exempt) position with excellent benefits, including:

  • PPO Healthcare Insurance

  • Vision & Dental Insurance

  • Competitive Salary

  • Financial Incentives/Bonus

  • Growth and Professional Development Opportunities

  • Market-level Vacation Time

Position Overview:

At our law firm, we live by a client-centered mentality, working together to solve big problems in order to grow as a firm as well as legal professionals. We embody excellence in all we do, but are there to support one another when things don’t go as planned. And we wouldn’t be able to do our jobs at such high-standard if we didn’t first connect and understand the delicate circumstances many of our clients are going through. Needless to say, empathy and excellence are at the heart of what we do.

The right kind of person for this position —

As one of our Associate Attorneys, you will be an extension of these core values. It is essential that you thrive working independently but are still open to working as a team when the need arises. You will have the confidence to regularly work 1-on-1 with clients, paralegals, and opposing counsel. Being able to work autonomously to manage a collection of unique but challenging cases with minimal supervision and to a high-standard is absolutely necessary, as is operating with integrity, achieving reasonable targets, and being comfortable in the courtroom. Having the leadership and foresight to lead meetings with paralegals and assign relevant tasks to move cases forward is absolutely vital to success in this role.

Our ideal candidate will have independently conducted hearings on, and be prepared to work on, the following issues: child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, attorney’s fees, DVROs, and property control/division/sale issues. You will also be responsible for attending trials.

These are the kinds of things you’ll be working on regularly —

  • Drafting and reviewing: Requests for Orders (RFO); correspondence to opposing counsel and parties; discovery requests and responses; Marital Settlement Agreements; Domestic Violence Restraining Orders (DVROs), etc.

  • Attending court hearings on all family law related motions.

  • Running child and spousal support calculations and property division reports.

  • Conducting in-office Voluntary Settlement Conferences, typically with all parties and counsel present.

  • Updating case management software with case updates and assign tasks.

  • Conducting legal research.

  • Managing Family Law cases from start to finish, including seeing dissolution cases from Petition through Judgement.

  • Speaking directly with clients, in person and virtually.

  • Taking or defending depositions.

  • Work with our Marketing team to provide content for marketing materials and reporting, as needed.

Minimum Requirements —

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.

  • Admitted to practice law in the State of California (Active California State Bar License). Must have no record of discipline and be in good standing.

  • Current on Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements.

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of family law practice experience as a licensed attorney.

  • Must know how to use basic support calculation programs and property division programs.

Compensation range —

$80,000 to $100,000; commensurate with experience.

Application Instructions —

In order to be considered for this position, your application must be submitted in the following format (if any of these are missing, your application will not be considered):

  • A cover letter and your resume (PDFs) outlining how you meet the person specifications and requirements of this position.

  • List of three (3) professional references.

  • One (1) professional writing samples.

  • Complete Indeed’s telephone screening to confirm that you meet the minimum requirements.

This should come as no surprise to you, but due to the nature of our work, the tasks required in this role will often require additional time outside of normal working hours. But we are serious about upholding work-life balance whenever possible, and aren’t known for giving our talented and loyal attorneys more than they can handle.
